It’s no surprise that Invisalign continues to be a popular alternative to metal braces. After all, they allow you to straighten your teeth and eat anything you want! Still, you probably don’t want to have to repeat the process if you can help it. Is there anything you can do to make sure you’re ready for Invisalign?
As a matter of fact, there is! Keep reading for a simple, easy-to-read list of tasks that will help you get ready for your treatment.
Be Prepared to Brush A LOT
Even if you brush your teeth twice daily and floss once per day as recommended by dental professionals, you might have to intensify your oral hygiene routine. Developing a cavity during an orthodontic treatment can put you seriously behind schedule, since it could change the structure of your teeth and you’ll have to get a filling.
Plus, Invisalign aligners should be cleaned after every meal to ensure bacteria doesn’t build up on the trays – or your teeth!
Put Together a To-Go Kit
You’ll have to wear your aligners for about 22 hours a day, but you won’t always be home for that long. When it’s time to get up and leave the house, it’s nice to have a to-go kit ready for you to grab on your way out the door. Here are some of the items it should include:
- A travel toothbrush
- A travel-sized tube of toothpaste
- Dental floss
- Pain relievers – just in case!
- An extra aligner case
- An Invisalign removal tool if you use one
- Invisalign cleaning crystals if you soak your aligners
Basically, you’ll want to pack anything that will make caring for your Invisalign easier.
Re-Strategize Your Snacks
Depending on your snacking habits, you may have to make adjustments in order to meet the 22-hour wear time every day. This might mean eating smaller portions, spreading out your treats throughout the day, or simply choosing foods that will help you feel fuller. Snacks packed with fiber and protein are great at satisfying the stomach!
Double-Check Your Dental Insurance Plan
Dental insurance does sometimes cover at least partial costs for an Invisalign treatment, but it’s important to double-check. The fine print could have specific requirements in order to be eligible for certain benefits. If you start to feel in over your head with the insurance lingo, don’t be afraid to contact your dental team. They’ll be able to help you get the most out of your plan.
Check these four simple tasks off your to-do list, and you’ll be in a good place for starting your Invisalign treatment!
